2017 Africa Cup of Nations champions Cameroon have been knocked out of the Confederations Cup after losing to Germany 3-1 on Sunday.

The Lions were drawn in group B alongside World champions Germany, Copa América winners Chile, and 2015 AFC Asian Cup champions Australia.

Cameroon started the tournament with a 2-0 loss to Chile, before losing two huge points against Australia in a 1-1 draw, then lost to the World champions 3-1 to finish bottom of the group.

The African Champions needed a win against Germany to qualify to the semi-finals, however, they didn’t get what they wanted.

Kerem Demirbay opened the scoreline for Germany in the 48th minute, before Timo Werner doubled Germany’s lead. Vincent Aboubakar managed to get one back for Cameroon in the 77th minute and three minutes later Werner scored his second of the game, finishing the game 3-1 to the Mannschaft.

Germany finished top of the group with 7 points, two points ahead of second-placed Chile, while Australia finished third with two points, and Cameroon came in fourth with only one point.

Chile will be up against group A winners Portugal on Wednesday, June 28, while Germany will face Gold Cup champions Mexico on Thursday, June 29.

It’s worth mentioning that Cameroon qualified for the Confederations Cup after beating Egypt 2-1 in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations final.
