Egyptian side Smouha are almost out of the 2017 CAF Confederation Cup after they were held to a 1-1 home draw with Zesco United.

The Alexandria-based team settled for a 1-1 draw with the Zambian team in the fifth round of the group stage at Borg El-Arab Stadium on Friday.

The draw means Smouha remain at the bottom of Group C with five points, one behind third-placed Recreativo do Libolo and two behind Hilal El-Obeid and Zesco United. Hilal are set to host Recreativo in matchday 5 on Saturday.

As the game seemed to be headed for a draw, the visitors took the lead six minutes from time as Jesse Were’s effort deflected in off Smouha’s Yasser Ibrahim.

The hosts were awarded a penalty in stoppage time after Ahmed Nabil ‘Manga’ was brought down inside the area and Burkinabe forward Banou Diawara levelled from the spot.

Smouha will travel to face Angola’s Recreativo do Libolo in the final group game on July 8.
