Zanaco hold Al Ahly to 0-0 draw at National Heroes Stadium
The victory was to see either side taking over the driving seat of the group as Zanaco could have stretched their reign on the top, where Al Ahly could have gone on level terms with the group leaders.
As expected, the hosts started the match with more purpose to seal their quarter-finals place, knowing that 13 points for them was insurmountable, however, as the encounter advanced Al Ahly became more comfortable and adapted to the playing conditions.
The combination of Hamoudi and Junior Ajayi could have punished Zanaco as the former’s looping effort hit the bar, before Hamoudi was substituted after limping off.
Walid Soliman had back to back wasted opportunities the first being a cross from Ajayi from the right flank but his final connection was disappointing, while in the second he had only the goalkeeper to beat, but Toster Nsabata brilliantly denied him.
Despite the Red Devils putting everything they had into the game, the spoils were shared after regulation and additional time of play, as both teams failed to find the back of the net.
