Smouha have been knocked out of the CAF Confederation Cup on Sunday after drawing with Angola’s Recreativo do Libolo in Calulo.

The Blues entered the game knowing that they need a win to qualify to the quarter-finals after the CAF disqualified all Sudanese clubs from African competitions because of government interference in the sport.

The CAF stated that the disqualification of Al Hilal El Obeid from the Confederation Cup, will result in the remaining matches involving the club to be considered a forfeit, as outlined by the CAF regulations for teams withdrawing from a tournament after participating.

Ahmed Raouf came close to scoring more than once, but his first shot hit the post and then in the dying moments of the game his header went wide of the goal. The Angolan side goalkeeper had also a lot of work to do, denying Islam Mohreb and Hossam Hassan from scoring several times.

The result means that Zambia’s ZESCO United finished top of the group with 10 points, three points ahead of second-placed Recreativo do Libolo, while Smouha finished third with six points.

ZESCO will face group D runners-up SuperSport United in the quarter-finals, while Recreativo will be up against DR Congo’s TP Mazembe.

It’s worth mentioning that Smouha were the last Egyptian team in the Confederations Cup after Al Masry were eliminated in round of 32 against Uganda’s KCCA on penalties.
