Egyptian Premier League champions Al Ahly reached Egypt Cup semi-final after beating Wadi Degla 4-1 on Wednesday.

Four days after qualifying to the CAF Champions League quarterfinals, the Red Devils secured their spot in the Egypt Cup semi-final after coming from one goal down to earn a 4-1 comeback win at El-Salam Stadium.

Saleh Gomaa had the first chance after 12 minutes but his effort was saved by Degla’s goalkeeper Mahmoud Reda before Amr Gamal missed a one-on-one chance on the 20-minute mark.

Al Ahly keeper Mohamed El-Shennawy blocked Ibrahima Ndiaye’s free-kick before Mohamed Anwar tapped in the loose ball to give Degla the lead after 24 minutes.

The Red Castle needed only four minutes to level the scoreline, as Gomaa scored from the spot after Karim Mamdouh brought down Bassem Ali inside the box.

Gomaa was close to scoring his second goal following a cross from Hossam Ghaly in the 34th minute, but the ball hit the side-netting.

Right before the break, Degla keeper Reda saved successive chances from Gomaa and Ghaly as the teams headed down the tunnel at half-time locked at 1-1.

Gomaa made it 2-1 for Al Ahly with 15 minutes to go as he scored his second goal from the spot after Ali was challenged again inside the box.

Momen Zakaria headed Amr Gamal’s cross to score Al Ahly’s third goal and secure qualification to the semi-finals with three minutes to go.

Veteran striker Emad Meteb, who came on to replace Gomaa in the 84th minute, made it 4-1 in the second minute of stoppage time after Al Ahly skipper Hossam Ghaly preferred to pass the ball to the 34-year-old striker despite having a clear chance to score himself.

Al Ahly, who are bidding for their first Egypt Cup title since 2007, will now face the winner of the match between Misr El-Maqassa and Smouha.
