Egypt defeat Madagascar in the FIBA U-16 African tournament

Egypt managed to defeat Madagascar 117-63 in the first game of FIBA U-16 African Championships held in Vacoas-Phoenix, Mauritius.

The Pharaohs had a good start to the game ending the first quarter 25-16. Their dominance was on display as they finished a comfortable second quarter 31-9.

The pace slowed down in the third quarter but Egypt’s U16s still came out on top with 22-17 and finally, a sublime fourth quarter wrapped up the game for the Egyptians which ended 39-21.

Egypt are set to face Rwanda in their second match of the group stages on Friday afternoon. Rwanda have been defeated by Algeria in their first match of the tournament.

Group A of the FIBA U-16 African Championships consist of hosts Mauritius, Mozambique, Mali and Tunisia. Group B on the other hand consists of Egypt, Algeria, Rwanda and Madagascar.

It’s worth noting that this tournament is held every two years and the first edition was inaugurated in 2009 which Egypt has won in Maputo, Mozambique.

Egypt are the record holders with three tournament wins of four editions while Angola managed to win once.
