Al Ahly finish season invincible as Soliman, Ajayi seal victory in Cairo derby over Zamalek

Goals from Walid Soliman and Junior Ajayi seal the victory for Al Ahly over rivals, Zamalek, in the last match of the Egyptian Premier League to secure ‘Invincibles’ status.

Champions Al Ahly entered the game without any losses in the league and only conceded 14 goals with 23 clean sheets.

The first half featured absolute possession from the Red Devils, who were posing a great threat to Zamalek’s goalkeeper Omar Salah, whereas, Zamalek maintained pressure and were cautious in defense.

The game started with high pressure from Al Ahly that was almost translated into an early goal in the second minute through the captain, Hossam Ghaly, but his shot was blocked by the defenders.

Tunisian international Ali Maloul was very close to find the net in the 17th minute with curved free-kick shot, but Omar Salah saved it brilliantly.

Trouble began for Al Ahly in the 25th minute as Saad Samir suffered from a hamstring strain, that forced him to get substituted by Mohamed Nagiub.

As everyone was expecting the first half to end in a goalless tie, Walid Soliman managed to find the net and score the first goal of the match in the 42nd minute after a wonderful cross from Saleh Gomaa to Junior Ajayi, who headed the ball to the incoming Soliman Who smashed the ball into the net.

The second half started similarly to the first one, as Al Ahly maintained high pressure and almost added their second through Walid Soliman after a wonderful shot in the 51st minute, but was saved by the goalkeeper.

Al Ahly’s Momen Zakaria was very close to find the net in the 78th minute after a wonderful one-two piece with Junior Ajayi but his shot went wide.

Zamalek’s major threats in the game started after Mostafa Fathi came in for Hossam Paulo. The White Knights were very close to find the net in the 84th minute after a wonderful run by Fathi, passing the ball in front of the net to Stanley, whose weak shot found Al Ahly’s Sherif Ekramy.

In the 89th minute, Junior Ajayi sealed the victory for Al Ahly, scoring from a wonderful shot inside the box and killing the game with a 2-0 victory for Al Ahly.

Al Ahly ends the league season in the first place with 84 points and without any losses, whereas Zamalek maintain the third place with 66 points.
