2017 FIBA AfroBasket: Egypt drawn into Group D
The draw for the FIBA AfroBasket 2017 took place on Sunday in Balaclava, Mauritius, and saw Egypt drawn into Group D.
Senegal, Mozambique, and South Africa were also drawn into the group.
Egypt will play their games in the Senegalese capital of Dakar from September 8-10. The top two teams from each group will advance to the knockout stages in the Tunisian capital of Tunis from September 14-16.
Group A is led by Nigeria and DR Congo, while Group B contains the most successful team of AfroBasket- Angola, who have won the tournament 11 times.
Egypt are the second most successful team in the tournament, having won the tournament five times. Behind Egypt are their group rivals Senegal, who have won two less medals than the Pharaohs in the biennial tournament.
At the ceremony for the draw, FIBA unveiled the newly-designed FIBA AfroBasket trophy in the video below.
The new trophy has an etched map of Africa engraved, as well as all the past continental champions from previous editions of the continent-wide tournament.
