Al Ahly: It was impossible to turn down 140 million for Hegazi
Al Ahly football director Sayed Abdel-Hafiz justified the recent move for defender Ahmed Hegazi to West Bromwich Albion.
The former Fiorentina and Perugia defender successfully joined West Bromwich Albion on a season-long loan deal for a fee in the region of €1 million with an option to make the deal permanent for €4 million.
Abdel-Hafiz spoke to TV channel Sada El Balad to justify the move as the administration was blamed several times by fans for letting the player go in such a critical time for the team.
“Technically, no one can deny Hegazi’s importance to the team,” the football director said. “But sometimes it is unacceptable to deprive the player of something that may affect his future career.”
Abdel-Hafiz also added that receiving an offer from a Premier League club is something that you can hardly say no to. “In addition to, 30 million EGP for the loan and 110 million EGP in case the player was sold permanently,” he explained.
Hegazi has already joined the Baggies in Hong Kong as a part of the Premier League’s Asia tour, where they’ll compete in a friendly competition against Crystal Palace, Leicester City and Mohamed Salah’s Liverpool on the 19th and 22nd of July.
