HANDBALL: Egypt lose to France in Junior World Championship opener
Egypt lost to France in their opening game of the 2017 IHF Men’s Junior World Championship held in Algeria from 18 to 30 July.
The Young Pharaohs had secured their spot in 21st edition of the Junior World Championship after finishing second in the 2016 African Men’s Junior World Championship.
Egypt were drawn in Group B alongside France, Denmark, Sweden, Qatar, and Slovenia. The top four teams in each group qualify to the second round.
Egypt kicked off their campaign with a defeat against the title holders, despite showing a great performance in the first half that ended with a narrow 16-15 advantage for the French side.
However, France managed to extend their lead in the second half to claim the first two points in Group B with a 36-30 victory.
On Wednesday, Egypt will face Denmark who lost to Slovenia 30-33 in their first game. They will then play against Sweden on Friday before facing Slovenia and Qatar on Saturday and Monday, respectively.
