West Brom manager Tony Pulis labels Hegazi signing ‘the perfect deal’
West Brom manager Tony Pulis is delighted with summer acquisition Ahmed Hegazi on loan from Al Ahly.
The structure of the acquisition of Hegazi was a “perfect deal”, at it is “low-risk, high-reward” for the West Bromwich club, according to manager Tony Pulis.
West Bromwich Albion only have to pay Al Ahly a fee of €1 million to obtain his services for this season. Albion also hold an option to buy the 26-year-old centre-back for €4 million if he impresses in his first season in English football.
It’s an arrangement Pulis believes works well for all concerned. “It’s a magnificent deal for us as a football club and it gives us the opportunity to see if he can adapt to the Premier League,” Pulis told Sky Sports.
“We didn’t want to take the chance of signing him on a permanent deal because you just don’t know the character and understanding of English football, English tradition and the English values of life,” The Welshman went on to add.
“I don’t want to put too much pressure on the lad.
“We’ve been looking at him for a long time and we’ve managed to get the deal we wanted.
“So I think we’ve got the perfect deal and you don’t get them too often.”
If Hegazi does not suffice the needs of West Brom, he will return to Egypt next season to resume his tenure at Al-Ahly.
