Klopp comments on the AFCON rescheduling
Liverpool manager, Jürgen Klopp, spoke to the media in Hong Kong before his side’s Premier League Asia Trophy final.
The 50-year old manager expressed his excitement about the rescheduling of the AFCON, as it will be moved to the summer rather than being held midway through the season.
The CAF have confirmed that the AFCON will be rescheduled to June and July as of 2019, as it usually takes place during the winter time, specifically between January and February, and that caused a lot of damage to non-African clubs as it obligates them to release their players halfway through season.
“The likes of Sadio Mané and Mohamed Salah will now not be missing a month or two of Liverpool’s season. Asked to comment on the AFCON changes,” the German gaffer said.
He added “It’s fantastic. When we signed Salah we thought ‘oh my god’ we’ll lose the two. Now we won’t lose them.”
The Red’s next and final preseason game will be up against Leicester City in the PL Asia Trophy final on Saturday which will mark July 22, 2017.
