Official: Alexander Jakobsen joins IFK Norrköping
Danish-Egyptian midfielder Alexander Jakobsen has joined Swedish side IFK Norrköping from Danish outfit Viborg FF on a three-year deal.
After spending half a season at Viborg FF in the Danish Superliga, Jakobsen has left the club to join IFK Norrköping. He scored twice in 15 appearances, and additionally, his team was relegated to the second division.
Rumors began to circulate when his agent Freebody Appiah announced that his client was looking for a move to a club outside of the Danish league.
Fans were given more insight into the future of Jakobsen when he, his agent, and IFK Norrköping manager Jens Gustafsson were all spotted at the airport together. This basically all but confirmed his move to the Swedish side.
At a press conference on Friday afternoon, the club announced that the Pharaoh has signed a three-year contract.
“Alexander is a player we believe enormously in. He has qualities we are convinced that we need in IFK Norrköping,” said Gustafsson. “We have been following him for a long time,” he added.
While many argue that Jakobsen didn’t perform to the best of his abilities at Viborg, he enjoyed his time there this season.
“I have been very pleased with my time in Viborg, where I have been welcomed from the first day. Both the club and the fans in the city have been positive acquaintances, and of course, I hope that the club will succeed and move back quickly,” Jakobsen told Viborg’s website.
He expressed his happiness after joining IFK Norrköping and vowed to do his best for the club. “I know that IFK Norrköping is a big club and I can’t wait until I get into the group. I’m glad to be here,” said Jakobsen during the press conference.
The Swedish Allsvenskan is currently midway through the season, and IFK Norrköping are in third place with 27 points, seven behind leaders Malmö FF.
It’s worth noting that the 23-year-old was handed his first senior call-up in March amid Egypt’s preparations for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
