Arsenal suffer first defeat of pre-season against Chelsea
Mohamed Elneny’s Arsenal have suffered a 3-0 pre-season defeat to Premier League Champions Chelsea on Saturday, two weeks before they meet in the Community Shield.
The Egyptian started the game on bench and was introduced by Arsène Wenger at half-time when he replaced Nacho Monreal, but couldn’t help his side as they suffered a 3-0 defeat.
Willian opened the scoreline in the 40th minute and two minutes later Belgian forward Michy Batshuayi scored his first of the game to double Chelsea’s lead before half-time. Batshuayi then put the game to bed when he scored his side’s third of the game in the 48th minute.
Today’s loss to Chelsea ended a run of 12 unbeaten pre-season games for Arsenal. Their last defeat was against Monaco in August 2014.
Arsenal’s next pre-season games will be against Portugal’s Benfica and La Liga outfit Sevilla in the Emirates Cup on Saturday, July 29 and Sunday, July 30 respectively.
According to a report by The Sun earlier this week, Leicester were keeping tabs on the Egypt international this summer but the 25-year-old opted to stay in London and fight for a starting spot at Arsenal.
