Al Ahly football director Sayed Abdel-Hafiz revealed that veteran striker Emad Meteb has been fined after his recent actions during the team’s match against Al-Faisaly.

The Red Devils fell to a surprise 1-0 home defeat to Jordan’s  in the Arab Club Championship opener at El-Salam Stadium on Saturday.

Abdel-Hafiz said that Meteb made two mistakes which resulted in handing him a hefty fine. “First, he did not follow the staff’s orders when asked to warm up during the match. Then, he spoke to the media regarding this incident even though a media ban was imposed earlier on all players,” the football director explained.

Abdel-Hafiz said that he seeks to impose a state of commitment within the team since Al Ahly is currently going through an important phase after winning the league as they compete in the Arab Club Championship, the Egypt Cup, and the CAF Champions League.

Tensions mounted between the player and the technical staff in the past season over Meteb’s lack of game time. Recently, Meteb denied any retirement rumors and the staff made sure to stay on the player’s side confirming that they have no intention to let him go.

In addition to being a hardcore football fan, Abdelrahman is a communications enthusiast who works in marketing, advertising, content creation and PR.
