Pharaohs Abroad Roundup: Gaber excluded as Basel lose league opener

Sam Morsy – Wigan Athletic (England)

July 22 – Friendly – Sam Morsy played 63 minutes as Wigan Athletic beat Notts County 2-1 in a friendly. In the 13th minute, Notts went ahead after Terry Hawkridge’s cross was converted by Lewis Alessandra. One minute after Morsy was subbed off, an own goal by Richard Duffy drew the game. Only five minutes later, Callum Lang put Wigan ahead from Noel Hunt’s cross. The win marks Wigan’s first pre-season win ahead of their first game in League 1 on August 5.

Omar Gaber – FC Basel (Switzerland)

July 22 – Swiss Super League – Omar Gaber was excluded from the squad as FC Basel lost 2-0 away against Young Boys in the league opener. Both sides had few chances in the first half which ended in a 0-0 draw. Young Boys went ahead in the 58th minute when Yoric Ravet scored from Loris Benito’s assist. Ten minutes before the end of the match, Young Boys extended their lead through Miralem Sulejmani. Basel’s next match will be on July 30 against FC Luzern.
