SQUASH: Marwan Tarek & Rowan Reda crowned World Junior Champions
Egyptian squash players Marwan Tarek and Rowan Elaraby successfully won the World Junior Championship titles in Tauranga, New Zealand.
Marwan Tarek and Rowan Elaraby claimed the Men’s and Women’s titles, respectively completing a clean sweep of the World Junior Individual Championship titles for Egypt for the first time since 2013.
Tarek won the title after beating Frenchman Victor Crouin in the final of the Men’s tournament 3-2: 11-9, 3-11, 11-6, 3-11, 11-3 in 57 minutes. A victory that made him the first Egyptian male winner since World No.67 Karim El Hammamy four years ago.
On the Women’s side, Elaraby managed to defeat fellow Egyptian and number one seed Hania El Hammamy in the final match 3-0: 11-7, 11-9, 11-8 in 36 minutes.
“I am so happy. I worked so hard for this title after coming second in Poland last year,” World No.50 Elaraby said. “It’s difficult playing another Egyptian but there are no friends on the court and I worked hard to stay calm.”
