Hegazi named Man of the Match as West Brom win Bass Charity Vase
Tony Pulis fielded a strong lineup in their pre-season friendly against Burton Albion, using many players who fans can expect to be starters this upcoming season. Ahmed Hegazi started in the defense at center back, paired with club captain Jonny Evans.
In the 17th and 18th minutes, Hegazi made two crucial stops to prevent the run of an opposition player and then draw a free kick. Hegazi continued these efforts throughout the game, earning applause from many West Brom fans at the match.
Nacer Chadli had a chance to open the scoring in the first half but he hit the crossbar following a neat exchange with Jay Rodriguez.
West Brom dominated the match and Hegazi came very close to scoring the first goal as his header was cleared off the line. West Brom got another corner as a result of Hegazi’s header and summer signing Jay Rodriguez headed home at the back post from Matt Phillips’ 77th-minute corner.
Rodriguez’s second-half goal helped West Brom clinch the Bass Charity Vase title, a tournament that was founded in 1889 and that was last won by Albion in 2003.
