Zamalek assistant coach Tarek Yehia critisizes Augusto Inacio
Zamalek assistant coach Tarek Yehia criticized head coach Augusto Inacio for attacking the club’s administration before the team’s match against Al-Ahed in the Arab Club Championship.
The Whites suffered a 1-0 defeat against Lebanon’s Al-Ahed which puts them in third place in their group, behind Al Ahed and Fateh Union of Morocco. Zamalek will finish group stage play on 29 July against Al Nassr, who languish in last place on goal differential.
Tensions arose between club chairman Mortada Mansour and Inacio after the coach attacked Mortada before the match and hinted to leaving the team due to difficult conditions that he is facing constantly. This led to the chairman accusing Inacio of spreading lies.
“I spoke with Inacio before the match about starting with Mostafa Mohamed. He is a great player with good potential but I wish he started on a different occasion,” Yehia said regarding choices made by the coach. “I hope we can get players out of the bad mental state they’re currently in.”
Yehia blamed Inacio for what he said during the last press conference before the match and said that his words caused a lot of trouble for the team. “I asked him to stay calm and not to attack anyone before the match but apparently he had a different point of view,” he added.
The assistant coach assured that he was asked by Mortada to attend the post-match press conference instead of Inacio and that he will not be discussing anything related to the coach’s future with the team.
