Stoke City manager Mark Hughes has told Egyptian star Ramadan Sobhi has a chance to make the starting XI – if he continues to improve and focus on football.

With the departure of left-winger Marko Arnautovic to West Ham, “Sobhi has a chance to make the starting XI if he continues to improve,” the Stoke City FC manager said.

“He’s done ok,” continued Hughes. “He’s not where he needs to be as yet. We feel there is more to come and we all know that. He was a little bit behind the group and he’s had a busy summer, with getting married and all that upheaval – if that’s the right word! – in his life.”

Ramadan was the only outfield player to play the full 90 minutes in Stoke’s 2-1 loss to Sheffield United on Tuesday.

“He now needs to focus on football and getting ready for the season. He’s shown good signs and flashes once again, but there is more to come from him, we know,” the Welsh manager commenced.

Hughes insists there is room for improvement – especially if Ramadan is going to nail down the space left by Marko Arnautovic on the left flank.

Stoke play their sixth friendly match of the pre-season against Bolton on Saturday.
