Salah scores as Liverpool run riot in Berlin
Liverpool continued their impressive pre-season with a 3-0 win over Hertha Berlin in the Olympiastadion, thanks to goals from Solanke, Wijnaldum and Egypt’s own Mohamed Salah.
Hertha XI: Jarstein; Rekik; Lustenberger; Plattenhardt; Weiser; Darida; Skjelbred; Duda; Leckie; Kalou; Ibisevic.
Liverpool XI: Mignolet; Klavan; Matip; Moreno; Gomez; Can; Lallana; Wijnaldum; Solanke; Coutinho; Mane.
Under 20 World Cup Golden Ball winner Dominic Solanke opened the scoring early in the first half after Lallana’s floated cross found him in space at the far post and he directed it past Jarstein.
The pressure continued and eventually paid off as Wijnaldum remained composed to wrongfoot the goalkeeper and create a two-goal cushion.
Salah was proving to be somewhat wasteful in front of goal, however after some neat work from makeshift captain Coutinho who weaved his way around the Hertha midfield before a lofted pass that found Egypt’s talisman running off the shoulder of the centre backs, before using the bounce of the ball to set up a half volley over the goalkeeper to make it 3-0.
Liverpool’s next game is in the Audi Cup against Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich on Tuesday evening.
