Ramadan Sobhi features as St. Pauli beat Stoke City 4-2 in Hamburg

Embed from Getty ImagesEgypt international Ramadan Sobhi featured for 32 minutes as Stoke City fell to a 4-2 defeat against German side FC St. Pauli.

St. Pauli started the game with sheer dominance all over the field, holding possession, creating space and firing shots, giving Stoke’s goalkeeper Lee Grant a chance to showcase his skills although he conceded four goals.

For the first 40 minutes, St. Pauli’s Enver Sahin and Sami Allagui were toying with Stoke’s defence. Sahin was a flawless speedster dribbling past Stoke defense in complete ease, while Allagui was striking volleys from the box. Only one Allagui shot was bagged on the 11th minute and it was followed by another goal seized by Maurice Litka to make it 2-0 for the home team after 21 minutes.

The St. Pauli defense were nailing The Potters but out of nowhere, Mame Diouf made a perfect assist for new signing Joselu to struck the near post with a first shot that he followed up with a goal to reduce the deficit before the end of the first half.

The same exposed defense was present for Stoke in the second half as a fatal error by Grant allowed a curling strike by Kyoung-Rok Choi to make it 3-1 for the Germans.

Another solo effort by Diouf followed by a screamer from Joselu made it 3-2 as the Spanish boy scored his second brace in back-to-back games.

Sobhi was introduced to replace Bojan Krkić right after the second goal, but the show was over as Sahin converted a penalty on the 83rd minute to secure his team the win.

Hope this is not representative of things to come this season. However, without signings soon it could well be!!
