Egypt international Mohamed Abdel-Shafy has been excluded from Al Ahli Jeddah’s squad that is set to feature in AFC Champions League.

Regulations limit each club participating in Asian competitions to just four slots for foreign players, but Al Ahli coach Sergei Rebrov decided to not include Abdel-Shafy in the team list for the biggest Asian club competition.

Rebrov has named Syria’s Omar Al Somah, Greece’s Giannis Fetfatzidis, Brazil’s Claudemir de Souza and Leonardo da Souza in the squad. The final spot was reportedly between Fetfatzidis and Abdel-Shafy, but the former Genoa midfielder won the run-off.

The 32-year-old have completed a permanent move to Al Ahli in 2015, after spending the year before at the club on loan.
