Ten-man West Brom lose to Deportivo
Egypt international Ahmed Hegazi played 90 minutes as ten-man West Brom ended their pre-season with a disappointing 2-0 loss to Galician giants Deportivo La Coruna.
The game, held at the Estadio Riazor, saw Bruno Gama and Borja Valle seal the victory for the home side with two second-half goals.
Deportivo XI: Ruben; Juanfran; Schar; Sidnei; Luisinho; Mosquera; Guilherme; Cartabia; Colak; Bakkali; Andone.
West Brom XI: Foster; Wilson; Hegazi; Dawson; McClean; Yacob; Rodriguez; Phillips; Livermore; Rondon.
The first half saw little in the way of clear chances for both sides, as the main incident came close to the interval with Jake Livermore seeing red for a poor reaction to a foul on his teammate Jay Rodriguez.
For the standards of a friendly match, the game continued to produce some aggressive fouls from both sides which saw the likes of Sidnei and Allan Nyom booked.
Former West Brom manager Pepe Mel made the decision to bring on Bruno Gama, and it paid off as he had the composure to finish past Myhill across goal from the edge of the box.
The Baggies lost their composure and eventually paid for it as Borja Valle put the game beyond all doubt late on to make it 2-0 with a header at the back post four minutes from time.
The game was Albion’s last friendly before they begin their Premier League campaign on August 12 at home against Bournemouth, with Hegazi likely to make an appearance due to Gareth McAuley’s lingering injury.
