Zamalek terminate Emmanuel Mayuka’s contract
Zambia forward Emmanuel Mayuka will leave Zamalek SC this summer, after his contract has been terminated by mutual consent.
Emmanuel Mayuka’s deal with Zamalek ran until June 2019, but he has found regular football hard to come by and has agreed to terminate his contract.
The former Southampton forward made 37 appearances for the Whites and scored seven goals since his arrival from French side FC Metz in January 2016.
The 26-year-old started his Zamalek career well, scoring five goals and assisting three times in his first 14 league appearances but struggled to progress from then on, as he failed to score a competitive goal for 303 days [from August 3, 2016 until June 2, 2017].
The club tried to get rid of Mayuka earlier this year but couldn’t, after finding out they would have to compensate him with a fee close to $400,000.
Mayuka, who helped the Whites win the Egyptian Cup title in 2016, was fined one million Egyptian Pounds by Zamalek for reporting late to the team’s training camp last January.
The Zambia international played for BSC Young Boys in Switzerland, Southampton in England before joining Metz in France’s second tier. He won the 2012 African Cup of Nations with the Chipolopolo.
