Sven Goran Eriksson confirms contact from Egyptian club
England’s former coach Sven Goran Eriksson confirmed that his agent was contacted by an Egyptian club to inquire about his services.
Eriksson told radio channel Mega FM that the inquiry came from Cairo giants Zamalek as the club is currently searching for a new coach to replace following the coach’s contract termination after days of tension involving a row with the club chairman.
“Egypt is a great country and Zamalek is a well know club,” the Swedish coach told Mega FM. “My agent told me that someone from Zamalek contacted him and told him about the club’s interest in signing me. They will have another call on Monday.”
Eriksson is currently not leading any team after he terminated his contract with Chinese side Shenzhen FC ended and he assured that he will not be coaching any Chinese teams after four years of coaching in China. The first team he led in China was Guangzhou R&F back in 2013 followed by a two-year spell with Shanghai SIPG.
It is worth mentioning that Eriksson’s salary is around $3 million while the White Knights are expected to offer him $1 million. “I have no details regarding Zamalek’s interest. We will have another phone call with an official from the club to speak about the offer,” he concluded.
