Egypt international playmaker Amr Warda has left Greece to join a club in the Portuguese Premeira Liga.

Amr Warda, 22, left Athens airport at early hours on Monday morning heading to Portugal to complete his long-awaited transfer.

KingFut can confirm that Amr Warda is set to join CD Feirense in the Premeira Liga after the player’s negotiations with Al-Fateh of Saudi Arabia broke down.

His club, PAOK, and Al-Fateh had reached an agreement regarding the move but the player’s reluctancy to move from Europe to the Gulf was the deciding factor, as he preferred to stay on the continent.

As previously revealed by KingFut, CD Feirense were on the verge of signing another Egyptian, Youssef Obama, on a free transfer a few weeks ago before the player made a u-turn on his agreement with them and re-signed for his former club Zamalek.

Warda joined Panetolikos from Al Ahly in the summer of 2015 and enjoyed a successful 18 months at the club before joining PAOK last winter.

The player endured a fruitful four months with the club following his move, getting his first taste of continental football in the Europa League, winning the cup and finishing third place in the league behind eventual winners Olympiacos & Panathinaikos.

Following interest from clubs in Spain, Switzerland and England; Amr Warda was denied the chance to leave by the club while demanding a huge fee, €6 million, to scare away potential suitors.

PAOK will have to play their first seven games next season behind closed doors due to their fans’ inappropriate actions in the Greek cup final against AEK.

The match ended with a 2-1 win for PAOK, but with serious penalties for both clubs, as Warda’s side were slapped with a €282,500 fine, as well as a 6 point deduction from their points tally in the play-off mini-league.

The points deduction meant that PAOK would finish the play-offs table in third place, while Panathinaikos would replace them in second.

Amr Warda was part of the Egyptian national team that finished runners-up in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations, taking part in several matches; most notably the final where he started as he team’s only striker.

The player arrives on Monday to complete his medical at CD Feirense ahead of a one-year loan move.
