OFFICIAL: Stoke City sign Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting
Stoke City have confirmed the signing of Cameroon international Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting on a three-year-deal after his contract with Schalke expired.
The Hamburg youth product had spent the previous three seasons at Schalke, making over 100 appearances for the Royal Blues and scoring 22 goals.
Stoke City were able to sign the Cameroonian, who scored three goals and assisted six times last term, on a free transfer after his contract with the German club expired last June.
The signing of Moting is likely as a replacement for Marko Arnautovic, who recently moved to West Ham. While Moting’s primary position is as a left winger, he can also play as a striker, a position which Stoke have lacked quality in.
The signing of Moting is also a direct competition for Ramadan Sobhi. With no solidified left winger, Sobhi had a role in the starting XI but this has changed as the two Africans will now have to battle it out for the left wing position.
The Cameroonian becomes Stoke’s fourth signing of the summer alongside Kurt Zouma, who joined on loan from Chelsea, Josh Tymon and Darren Fletcher.
The Potters will kick-off their Premier League campaign when they take on Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday, August 12.
