OFFICIAL: Al Ahly sign Ayman Ashraf on free transfer
Al Ahly have completed the signing of Egypt international Ayman Ashraf on a free transfer after his deal at Smouha expired.
The 26-year-old has put pen to paper on a five-year contract that will keep him at the club until 2021 and his arrival could mean the departure of Ali Maaloul, Hussien El-Sayed or Sabry Rahil this summer.
Ayman Ashraf, who is a product of Al Ahly youth sector, joined Smouha in 2013 from Al Ahly and made 113 appearances for the Blues, scoring five goals.
He made 25 appearances across all competitions last term as the Alexandria-based side finished fifth in the table and were knocked out of the Egypt Cup semis.
During his four years at Smouha, he helped them finish second in the Premier League in 2014 [their highest-ever league finish], as well as guiding them to the 2014 Egypt Cup final, which they lost to Zamalek.
The Egypt international, who can play at left-back and centre-back, made 17 appearances for the Red Devils before and won two league titles with them in 2010 and 2011.
He becomes Al Ahly’s fourth signing of the summer after deals for Walid Azarou, Hesham Mohamed and Islam Mohareb.
It’s worth mentioning that Ayman can’t be registered by Al Ahly in their CAF Champions League squad as he played for Smouha in this season’s Confederation Cup.
