Al Ahly coach Hossam El-Badry has confirmed the signing of Smouha left-back Ayman Ashraf, following the Red Devils’ Egypt Cup win over the Alexandria-based side.

The 26-year-old left-back, who is a product of Al Ahly youth sector, made 25 appearances across all competitions for Smouha this season. He featured in his side’s 4-0 defeat against Al Ahly in Egypt Cup semi-final on Wednesday.

Ashraf was heavily linked with a move to Cairo giants Al Ahly and Zamalek in the recent period, with rumors circulating that he had an agreement to join the Red Devils – the news which was confirmed by the Egyptian Premier League champions’ boss.

“We had an agreement with the player [Ashraf] to complete the transfer after the Al Ahly-Smouha game,” El-Badry said in the post-match press conference.

“We preferred to do it this way as we respect Smouha which Ashraf was representing during the Egypt Cup tie.”
