EXCLUSIVE | Aly Ghazal to join MLS club
Egypt’s Aly Ghazal is set to join a club in the Major League Soccer after leaving Guizhou Hengfeng Zhicheng.
Defensive midfielder Aly Ghazal is set to depart to Canada after leaving his club in China by mutual consent. KingFut can confirm that the 25-year-old Egypt international has signed for MLS side Vancouver Whitecaps.
Ghazal joined the recently-promoted Chinese Super League outfit last window, coming from Portugal’s CD Nacional, but failed to get much game time after the change in Super League regulations regarding foreign players.
Once Ghazal joined a new rule was passed; of the five foreign players in each team, only three were to be registered in the matchday squad.
This was coupled with the club’s decision to sign Mario Suarez from Watford and Ruben Castro from Real Betis over the past two weeks, bringing the club over the foreign players’ quota.
In addition, the club underwent a managerial change following Ghazal’s arrival with Gregorio Manzano taking helm.
The former Nacional midfielder failed to record any official minutes on the pitch in the league, while appearing in the team’s FA Cup defeat.
KingFut understands the official unveiling of Ghazal is expected within the next few hours. Vancouver Whitecaps FC are currently seventh in the Western Conference, just one position away from a playoff spot.
