Ramadan Sobhi signs new five-year contract with Stoke City
Egypt international Ramadan Sobhi has signed a new five-year deal at Stoke City, the club have announced on Thursday.
The 20-year-old joined Stoke City from Egyptian Champions Al Ahly for €5million in July 2016, making 19 appearances for them across all competitions last term.
The new contract will now keep him at the club until 2022, but he will have to battle with the likes of Ibrahim Afellay and new signing Eric Choupo-Moting for a place in the starting eleven.
Club Chief Executive Tony Scholes expressed his delight at Ramadan signing a new contract with the Potters, saying: “There’s no doubting that Ramadan is an exciting young talent.
“The first year in a new league and it’s fair to say new culture is always going to be challenging for a player. However, Ramadan has adapted to the league and country very quickly and showed that he has enormous potential. We’re delighted to have secured him on a contract until at least 2022,” he added.
The Potters’ first Premier League game of the season will be against Everton on Saturday, August 12 at Goodison Park, Liverpool.
It’s worth mentioning that Sobhi has been called up by Héctor Cúper for Egypt’s two crucial World Cup qualifying encounters against Uganda on August 31 and September 5.
