Jenas: Salah isn’t enough to bring Liverpool top-four place
Former Tottenham and England international player Jermaine Jenas doesn’t believe Mohamed Salah can secure Liverpool a top-four finish.
The Reds have successfully signed the Egyptian winger in June from Italian side AS Roma for an initial fee of €42 million.
This won’t be Salah’s first season at the Premier League having already experienced a terrible time at Chelsea, where he only managed six league starts before being loaned out to Fiorentina and Roma.
In an interview with GQ magazine the current BT Sport pundit stated that both Liverpool and Arsenal have done well in regards to their signings, referring to Mohamed Salah and Alexandre Lacazette as “very good players.”
However, Jenas revealed he has spoken with some of Salah’s former team-mates from his Chelsea days and they were not impressed with the Egyptian during his brief time at the Stamford Bridge.
“Liverpool and Arsenal have done some decent business in the transfer market, and both Mohamed Salah and Alexandre Lacazette are very good players,” Jenas told GQ magazine.
“But I remember speaking to a couple of Chelsea players about Salah, who spent a couple of years at Stamford Bridge, and they weren’t particularly impressed with him.
“He has obviously improved since and going on his pre-season performances he looks very sharp.
“Salah is definitely a good addition to the Liverpool squad, but not necessarily enough to bring them a top-four place,” he added.
Liverpool will kick-off their Premier League campaign with a tricky away game against Watford on Saturday, August 12 at Vicarage Road.
