Morocco submit bid to host 2026 World Cup
Morocco have submitted an official bid to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup, according to a statement issued by the Moroccan Football Federation on Friday.
This is the fifth time Morocco bids to have the world’s biggest football event played in its land, after attempting to host the competition in 1994, 1998, 2006 and lastly in 2010, where they were slightly edged out by South Africa.
“The Royal Moroccan Football Federation have officially submitted its candidacy on Friday, August 11, 2017 to organise the World Cup in 2026,” the Moroccan FA statement read.
“The Federation submitted its application to the relevant committees of FIFA to host this global event.”
Football’s governing body have announced earlier this year reforming the World Cup tournament, increasing the number of participating nations to 48, with this change set to be put into effect starting from the 2026 World Cup.
