Robinson: Ghazal is a top player capable of bringing us to the next level
Egyptian midfielder Aly Ghazal has recently joined MLS club Vancouver Whitecaps after mutually terminating his contract with Chinese Super League club Guizhou Zhicheng.
Robinson has revealed that he tried to sign Ghazal last season, but the attempt was unsuccessful after Guizhou Zhicheng swooped in with a bigger offer that led Ghazal to China.
The manager didn’t give up on his pursuit of the Egyptian and finally landed the deal after the Chinese Football Association decreased the number of foreign players allowed to play which led to Ghazal not featuring for the club.
Robinson talked about him trying to sign Ghazal saying : “It’s similar to what I did with Yordy Reyna. I missed out the first time and it’s similar to what I did with Christian Bolaños. I missed out the first time. But if you try hard enough, it eventually comes around.”
The Welsh manager then talked about Ghazal’s ability to play in a box-to-box role, a pure defensive midfielder or even as a centre back.
He then went on to praise the Egyptian’s ability saying : “Hopefully he can bring the group to the next level because we know he’s a key player.
“You don’t play at that level, at that age, and be captain if you’re not a good player. It will rub off on other people as well, which is good.”
