Hegazi: ‘A fantastic feeling’ to score winner on West Brom debut
Ahmed Hegazi spoke on his debut goal and winning start to life in the Premier League as a West Bromwich Albion defender.
Hegazi, who netted his side’s only goal against Bournemouth with a trademark header, described scoring on his Premier League debut as “a fantastic feeling”.
“It is a very good win and a fantastic feeling. To start well was very important for us,” Hagazi said.
Hegazi’s winning goal for The Baggies came on the heels of Mohamed Salah’s Man-of-the-Match performance for Liverpool. It completed a great weekend for Egyptians in the Premier League as Mohamed Elneny had assisted a goal for Arsenal in the first Premier League match of the season on Friday.
The Egypt international defender, who was named Man of the Match, was humble and chose to highlight the importance of his team recording a win. “The first game is always very important for the team and for the start of the season. We can take enormous confidence from this,” Hegazi said.
The 26-year-old player, who joined the Premier League side on a one-year loan deal in the summer transfer window, also focused on the importance of keeping a clean sheet.
“The clean sheet is the first thing you think about as a defender. It’s very important to the team.”
