Klopp ‘fine’ with Salah’s contribution against Watford
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp provided his assessment of Mohamed Salah’s performance on his competitive debut for the Reds against Watford.
The Egypt international was named Man of the Match in Liverpool’s 3-3 away draw at Vicarage Road in their Premier League opener. He was fouled for a penalty and scored a goal before he was subbed off for James Milner in the 86th minute.
“He was involved in the penalty, scoring a goal, even though it was for sure not the most difficult goal of his life because it was a perfect ball from Dejan, fantastic control from Roberto, a sensational chip, and then he’s there to finish the situation, which is nice,” Klopp said.
Firmino scored from the spot for Liverpool after Heurelho Gomes took down Salah inside the penalty area in the 57th minute. The Egyptian winger then got his own name on the scoresheet two minutes later after tapping home a terrific lob from Roberto Firmino.
The German coach said that the 25-year-old winger faced some difficulty in dealing with Watford’s José Holebas at the beginning of the game, but improved in the second half after discussing the matter during half-time.
“We need offence in behind with the speed, not all the time but if we can do it in another space then it’s easier for us to play football there. So yes, I am fine with his contribution,” he added.
