Pharaohs Abroad Roundup: Elmohamady suffers injury in defeat at Cardiff

Ramadan Sobhi – Stoke City (England)
August 12 – Premier League – Ramadan Sobhi remained on the bench as Everton defeated Stoke City 1-0, thanks to Wayne Rooney’s first-half goal. New signing Eric Choupo-Moting came on for his debut in the 72nd minute, but Stoke still could not find the equaliser. The Potters play Arsenal next at the bet365 Stadium on Saturday, August 19.
Ahmed Elmohamady – Aston Villa (England)
August 12 – EFL Championship – Egypt’s Ahmed Elmohamady featured for Aston Villa as they suffered a 3-0 defeat against Cardiff City in the second fixture of the Championship. Albert Adomah came on to replace the Egypt international in the 31st minute after picking up an injury. Aston Villa are scheduled to face Reading on Tuesday.
August 15 – EFL Championship – Ahmed Elmohamady was left out of squad due to injury as Aston Villa suffered a 2-1 defeat against Reading in the third round of the Championship. Reading took the lead early in the second half after Adrian Popa’s cross hit off Glenn Whelan and went into the latter’s own net. Modou Barrow scored from close range to double the lead for the hosts in the 55th minute and Conor Hourihane scored three minutes from time to half the deficit for Aston Villa. The Villans will be looking to earn their first victory when they face Norwich on August 19.
Amr Warda – Feirense (Portugal)
August 12 – Primeira Liga – Amr Warda was left out of the squad as his new club Feirense claimed a 0-0 draw with Moreirense. Warda’s side were fortunate to get out of the Parque de Jogos Comendador Joaquim de Almeida Freitas with a clean sheet as Moreirense produced a dominant offensive performance. Feirense who drew both of their fixtures in the league will face Pacos de Ferreira on August 21.
Omar Gaber – Basel (Switzerland)
August 13 – Swiss Cup – Egypt’s Omar Gaber assisted FC Basel’s second goal as they defeated Wettswil-Bonstetten 2-0 in the round of 32 of the Swiss Cup. Taulant Xhaka scored the team’s first goal through an accurate free kick six minutes before half time, while Luca Zuffi secured the win for the Swiss Giants in the 86th minute to advance to the second round of the Swiss Cup.
Sam Morsy – Wigan (England)
August 13 – League 1 – Egypt’s Sam Morsy played full 90 minutes as Wigan defeated Bury 4-1 in the second fixture of the league. Michael Jacobs opened the scoring in the 13th minutes and Alex Bruce equalised two minute later. Nick Powell scored a brace in the second half before Lee Evans made it 4-1 in the 90th minute. They are scheduled set to face Oldham Athletic on August 19.
Mohamed Abdel-Shafy – Al Ahli (Saudi Arabia)
August 17 – Saudi Pro League – Egypt’s Mohamed Abdel-Shafy played the full 90 minutes as Al Ahli defeated Al Fateh 4-0 in the second fixture of the Saudi Pro League. Following the win, Al Ahli sit eighth with three points and are set to face Persepolis in the AFC Champions League quarter-final on August 22.
