Salah scores in six-goal thriller against Watford
Mohamed Salah scored and drew a penalty on his competitive Liverpool debut as the Reds drew with Watford 3-3 at Vicarage Road.
Watford opened the scoring in the 8th minute as their striker Stefano Okaka headed home Jose Holebas’ corner at the near post.
Liverpool equalized in the 29th minute through Sadio Mane after nice passing with Alberto Moreno and Emre Can. Just three minutes later Watford made it 2-1 with a Doucouré goal. The Frenchman capitalized on a scramble to give hosts the lead again.
In the 54th minute, Gomes took down Salah as he was darting into the box. The referee awarded a penalty and Roberto Firmino converted it.
Mohamed Salah then opened his competitive goal scoring account with Liverpool three minutes later. Firmino was played through on goal and chipped the ball over Gomes, as the ball seemed to be on the direction to go out of play, the Pharaoh acrobatically tapped it in.
Salah’s pacey runs threatened Watford and he came close to making it 4-2, missing the crossbar by less than a yard.
The Egyptian was subbed off in the 86th minute for James Milner, with Klopp opting to play defensively to preserve a win.
Unfortunately for him, Miguel Britos scored an almost identical goal to Watford’s first in the dying moments of the game, earning his side a valuable point as the game ended 3-3.
Liverpool’s next game will be against Bundesliga side Hoffenheim in the Champions League play-offs on Tuesday, August 15 at Rhein-Neckar Arena.
