OFFICIAL: Ismaily sign Ahmed Dewidar on free transfer
Ismaily have signed Egypt international defender Ahmed Dewidar on a free transfer, the club have announced on Sunday.
The 29-year-old left Zamalek after his contract ran out and now he has officially joined Ismaily ahead of the new season.
Premier League champions Al Ahly were interested in bringing Ahmed Dewidar to the club but then they decided against signing him.
Dewidar joined Zamalek from Ittihad El-Shorta in 2014 and went on to make over 50 appearances, winning the league title in his first season at the club and two Egypt Cup titles in 2015 and 2016.
The defender, who has been capped nine times by Egypt, will become Ismaily’s fourth major summer signing after Mohamed Fawzi, Ahmed Ismail and Moussa Camara, who joined from Rayon Sports.
The Yellow Dragons will still have to strengthen their squad if they want to return to the glory days, as they haven’t won a trophy since 2002.
Ismaily finished the league last season in sixth place after collecting 54 points, eight less than Al Masry, who qualified to the CAF Confederation Cup after finishing fourth.
