Amr Gamal was man of the match, says Ahmed Fathi
Gamal, who will join South Africa’s Bidvest Wits on loan, helped the Red Devils earn a dramatic victory as he levelled for Al Ahly just 10 minutes after coming on to replace Hossam Ashour. Fathi then scored the winner for the Red Devils in the injury time.
“I chose Amr Gamal due to the timing of his goal,” Fathi said in a televised interview after the victory.
“I told him to go at the near post and advised Ali Maaloul to have his cross pass Al Masry’s first defender because it’ll increase the chances of scoring,” he explained.
The 32-year-old wished Gamal good luck after his move to Bidvest Wits, saying he doesn’t mind playing for a South African team in case he received a good offer.
“He chose to leave due to his lack of playing time and he’ll join Bidvest, which is a strong team,” Fathi added.
The Egypt international praised the rest of his teammates, with a special mention for Abdallah El-Said, Mohamed Naguib, and Amr El-Sulaya, who “produced a strong performance” in the Cup final.
He also expressed his sadness over the departure of Al Ahly skipper Hossam Ghaly, who joined Saudi Arabian side Al Nassr on a one-year deal.
“I wish him luck in his future and I wish that he returns to Al Ahly,” Fathi added.
