Hossam Hassan ‘satisfied’ with Al Masry performance despite losing to Al Ahly
The Port Said-based club were just five minutes away from winning the Egypt Cup title for the first time since 1999 when the Red Devils made a strong comeback and scored two goals in the final minutes of extra time to clinch the trophy.
“I thank God for the players’ performance and I’m happy with the efforts of my team and the technical staff. We were close to winning the title if it wasn’t for bad luck,” Hassan said in the post-match press conference.
“We handled the game very well, and we were forced to make substitutions after the injury of a key player like Ahmed Ayman Mansour,” Hassan said in reference to Mansour who was subbed off in the 53rd minute due to injury.
Besides eliminating Zamalek to reach the Egypt Cup final, Hassan had guided Al Masry to a fourth-place finish in the 2016/17 Egypt Premier League season.
“We faced a big team who have a great experience, and their players played more than 15 finals in the last years, but we withstood the pressure and were the better side at many parts of the game.”
“We don’t fear any team, we only respect them,” the Egyptian legend added.
