Meteb: I have erased this year from my football career
After another historic victory for Al Ahly, veteran striker Emad Meteb stated he erased this football season from his career with the Reds.
The 34-year-old made 11 appearances this season, with only one start and 10 off the bench, a total of only 196 minutes played. He scored five goals across all competitions, a goal on average every 39 minutes.
“I want to thank the players for the determined spirit they showed in the game and because they proved that Al Ahly work hard until the very last minute, until the referee’s whistle,” Meteb told Sada El Balad on Wednesday morning.
“I hoped I could get some playing time in the final. I really wanted to score and help the team as I never feel that I have won anything unless I participate,” he continued. “I really thought I was going to have a role in the final.”
“I did win the league and the cup, but I have erased this year from my football career as I believe I am physically fit and training hard, and there are no good reasons for the playing time I am getting,” Meteb added.
The former Egypt international revealed he is going to train and fight for his spot next season as he believes he still got 90 minutes in his boots.
“I will train just as the rest of my teammates and if they want me to train for extra hours I will do that. I have the right to play for full 90 minutes,” he concluded.
