Egypt inaugurate U-23 volleyball world championship with win over Japan
The U-23 volleyball world championship is being held in Egypt, with 12 participating teams which were drawn into two pools. First pool includes the hosts Egypt, Brazil, Cuba, Japan, Mexico and Poland, while second pool consist of Algeria, Argentina, China, Iran, Russia and Turkey.
Egypt led the first and second set with 15-10 and 15-13 respectively. Japan brought themselves back into the game after winning the third set 12-15, but Egypt once again restored their two set lead by clinching the fourth set with 15-8. The Blue Samurai won two successive sets by 9-15 and 13-15 to level the match, before Egypt finished the game in their favour by winning the fifth and final set by 15-10.
Egypt are set to face Cuba in their second game of the world championship on Saturday.
