Pharaohs Abroad Roundup: Elmohamady assists in 4-2 victory Norwich City

Hossam Ghaly – Al Nassr (Saudi Arabia)
August 18 – Saudi Pro League – Hossam Ghaly remained on the bench as Al Nassr drew 2-2 with Al-Ettifaq in the second fixture of the Saudi Pro League. The 35-year-old veteran midfielder is yet to make his debut with Al Nassr after completing his transfer from Al Ahly. Following the draw, Al Nassr currently sit third in the league table with four points and are set to face Mohamed Abdel-Shafy’s Al Ahli on September 17.
Ahmed Elmohamady – Aston Villa (England)
August 19 – EFL Championship – Ahmed Elmohamady started for Aston Villa in their 4-2 win over Norwich City after recovering from injury. Conor Hourihane opened the scoring for Villa, tapping the ball in from close range in the 22nd minute and Andre Green doubled the home side’s lead with a curling shot before half time. Josh Murphy brought one back for Norwich on the one-hour mark. Elmohamady would assist with a through-ball as Hourihane completed his hat-trick as he scored off a deflection in the 68th minute before adding his side’s fourth goal five minutes from time. They will next travel to face Bristol City.
August 22 – EFL Cup – Both Ahmed Elmohamady and Sam Morsy were excluded from their club’s squads as Aston Villa decimated ًWigan Athletic 4-1. Aston Villa took control of the game early with goals in the 19th and 36th minute from Scott Hogan and Alber Adomah. Ryan Colclough brought one back for Wigan in the 43rd minute but it amounted to nothing as Scott Hogan scored again for Villa one minute after Colclough goal. Birkir Bjarnason sealed the game for Villa with a goal in the 74th minute to win the game 4-1.
Karim Hafiz – Lens (France)
August 19 – Ligue 2 – Karim Hafez played the full 90 minutes as RC Lens fell to a 4-2 defeat against Brest. Lens opened the scoring through French winger Kevin Fortune in the 10th minute. Brest would then score three goals by Jason Berthomier, Gaëtan Belaud, and Jessy Pi in the 44th, 47th, and 63rd minutes respectively. Fortune reduced the deficit for Lens as he converted from the spot in the 68th minute before Julien Faussurier made it 4-2 nine minutes from time. They will face Orleans on August 28.
August 23 – League Cup – Karim Hafez played the full 90 minutes as RC Lens were eliminated from the League Cup following a 3-2 loss against FC Lorient. Lorient started the game off with a bang, scoring three goals in eight minutes thanks to strikes from Denis Bouanga, Steven Moreira, and Jimmy Cabot. Hafez had a shot attempt in the 28th minute, hitting the shot high and wide from outside the box. Lens went on a run of their own just before halftime, scoring twice within eight minutes with goals from Djiman Koukou and Cristian.
Sam Morsy – Wigan (England)
August 19 – League 1 – Egypt’s Sam Morsy played the full 90 minutes as Wigan defeated Oldham Athletic 2-0 the third fixture of League one. Two first-half goals from Ivan Toney Michael Jacobs gave the guests the victory. Wigan top the league table with nine points from three games and are set to face Aston Villa in the EFL Cup second round on August 22.
Aly Ghazal – Vancouver Whitecaps (Canada)
August 20 – MLS – Aly Ghazal was excluded from Vancouver Whitecaps’ squad as they claimed a 2-1 win over Houston Dynamo. Fredy Montero opened the scoring for the Canadian side from the spot in the 17th minute. Peruvian forward Yordy Reyna doubled Vancouver side’s lead in the 32nd minute. Houston brought one back in the 51st minute, with Honduran striker Romell Quioto scoring. The Whitecaps next play the Seattle Sounders on Thursday.
Omar Gaber – Basel (Switzerland)
August 20 – Swiss Super League – Omar Gaber remained on the bench as FC Basel’s three-match winning run came to an end after they drew with Lugano at home. The visitors had a better first half, with two chances falling for Gerndt. Basel had a much better second half and Dutch striker Ricky van Wolfswinkel converted from the spot on the one-hour mark. Gaber’s team looked headed for a home win but Carlinhos equalised four minutes from time. FC Basel, who have 10 points from five matches, will face Sion in their next league game.
Ahmed Hassan Kouka – Braga (Portugal)
August 20 – Primeira Liga –SC Braga were made to work to close out an away win over Desportivo Aves. The visitors were always in control from the start but were not lucky to go ahead. They got some help in the 42nd minute when Aves were reduced to 10-men. Nevertheless, the first half ended goalless. Braga were able to break the deadlock through Danilo in the 57th minute. It was not until injury time that Braga confirmed their win. Ricardo Esgaio, who came on in the 89th minute, scored to ensure a 2-0 away win for Kouka’s team, who missed the game with an injury.
