OFFICIAL: Evouna joins Turkish side Konyaspor
Former Al Ahly striker Malick Evouna has joined Turkish side Konyaspor from Tianjin Teda, following months of speculation.
The Gabon international had spent the last year in the Chinese league, where his side have struggled and currently find themselves fighting relegation despite boasting familiar names to African football fans such as John Obi Mikel and Frank Acheampong.
In recent months Evouna has been linked with Swiss side Lugano where he spent some time on trial, however it amounted to nothing. He was also rumoured to make a return to Africa’s most successful club Al Ahly.
Evouna’s move to the Konyaspor took longer than expected due to late interest from Harry Redknapp’s Birmingham City, who were rumoured to have bid around £6 million for his services, but he seemed to have his heart set on the Turkish league which has boasted several big African names over the years, including Didier Drogba, Jay Jay Okocha and currently Samuel Eto’o.
Upon joining, Evouna has described himself as being “at 65-70%”, and will be hoping to make his way back to full fitness in time for their game next week against high flying Istanbul Basaksehir.
On November 26, Konyaspor will face Kasimpasa where Evouna may come up against fellow ex-Ahly star Trezeguet.
Konyaspor currently sit in the 13th place, however they have only played one match which was a tricky away fixture at Trabzonspor.
