Ramadan Sobhi features as Stoke City grab a 1-0 home win over Arsenal
Ramadan Sobhi came on for the final 20 minutes as Stoke grabbed their first home victory of the season against top-four hopefuls Arsenal.
Both Sobhi and Mohamed Elneny started on the bench for the home and away side, however, only Sobhi featured in the tie as he came on as a second-half substitute.
The game opened with a timid first half, with little chances between the two sides. The best opportunity came through Stoke’s Ryan Shawcross, with his free header going wide and over.
However, following the break, Stoke came out the strongest and got their due rewards. Debutant Jesé Rodriguez finished a Saido Berahino through ball from an acute angle to give The Potters the lead three minutes after the restart.
Olivier Giroud came on for the away side with 30 minutes to play in an attempt to change the complexion of the game but to no avail.
Arsenal did have the ball in the back of the net, however, Lacazette’s left-footed finish was controversially ruled offside.
Sobhi came on for the goalscorer Jese, helping the hosts to hang on and get their first three points of the season.
Stoke next play Rochdale in the Football League Cup on Wednesday, whereas Arsenal face up against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.
