OFFICIAL: Islam Gamal joins Petrojet on loan from Zamalek
Petrojet have signed Egypt international centre-back Islam Gamal on loan from Zamalek until the end of the season.
After a trophy-less season a clear-out at Zamalek was imperative and Islam Gamal is the latest player to be on his way out of the club this summer.
The 28-year-old will join on an initial one-year loan worth up to 2 million L.E after struggling to nail down a starting place last season, making just nine appearances across all competitions for the Whites.
He becomes the third Zamalek player to join Petrojet this summer after Ahmed Gafaar and Mohamed Salem, who joined on a permanent transfer and on loan respectively as part of Mohamed Ramadan’s transfer to Zamalek.
Gamal joined Zamalek in the summer of 2014 from Tala’a El-Gaish, helping them winning the domestic double in his first season at the club, but after failing to impress and falling down the pecking order he was loaned out to Ismaily in January 2015.
He impressed during his brief stint at the Yellow Dragons and scored against his parent club. He also guided Ismaily to finish seventh in the 2015/2016 league table and the semi-finals of Egypt Cup, which made Zamalek recall him back.
It’s worth mentioning that Islam Gamal has made his international debut against Guinea in August 2016, before he played the full 90 minutes against Congo in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers last October.
