Abou-Rida: Majority of clubs agree to increase foreign player quota
Chairman of the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) Hany Abou-Rida confirmed that the majority of clubs have agreed to increase the foreign players’ quota.
Abou-Rida revealed that the majority of the Egyptian Premier League clubs have approved an extra expatriate slot, agreeing to raise the number of foreign players per team to four instead of three.
This comes few days after Egypt’s FA released a statement confirming that the maximum number of foreign players in each team is three for the first division and two for the second division. Additionally, it has already been decided that each team is allowed to register a maximum of two Palestinian and two Syrian players as domestic players.
Abou-Rida wasn’t supporting the idea when first proposed by Zamalek president Mortada Mansour but most of the teams voted in favour of the new rule.
“The majority of the clubs welcomed the proposal but we are yet to take a final decision. Firstly we need to present the proposal to the FA board members,” the EFA chairman said.
