Egypt coach explains decision to exclude Amr Warda
The Pharaohs will face Uganda on August 31 in Kampala before hosting them at Alexandria’s Borg El-Arab Stadium on September 5. Head coach Hector Cuper has already named the players who will be joining the team’s training camp on August 24.
Warda was among 15 foreign-based players called up by Cuper for the two upcoming fixtures, but then the Argentinian manager decided to replace him with Amr Gamal due to “technical reasons”.
This came few days after a Portuguese report claimed that the 23-year-old player harassed two wives of his teammates at Primeira Liga side Feirense.
“Warda was excluded because of technical reasons only since he did not play with a team in the past period and did not have proper training,” Lehita said, denying that the harassment claims were the reason behind his exclusion.
“He might return to the squad for Congo clash on October 10,” Lehita added.
The player had issued a statement regarding the harassment claims saying that he will seek legal action against those who have accused him of being involved in harassment incidents.
His parent club PAOK also decided to terminate their loan agreement with Feirense after the recent allegations and the player returned to Greece.
